A young woman is pursued by two others and barely manages to escape through an ID portal. When she is found medical examinations show that she had been pregnant and the child was removed through ID technology - a method formally used by the Taelons in their hybrid experiments. While Renée tries to pry information out of the equally surprised Zo'or, Liam traces the girl's origin back to Taelonville, a town which had been aided by Da'an after a nuclear incident several years ago. There, he meets Belle and Steve, a twin pair saved by Da'an from radiation ... and they turn out to be the same people who had pursued the girl in the first place ...
